What We Offer

We’ll match training to your career path

We want people to join us safe in the knowledge that their careers are in good hands. We back our people in order to help them be the best they can possibly be. We do this through a wide range of training initiatives. Whatever your level or experience we will find training that suits your needs.

Our training is boosted massively through our partnerships with local universities including Buckinghamshire New University and the University of Winchester. This allows us to host a range of masterclasses with expert guest speakers – we also work very closely with Eileen Munro and Andrew Turnell.

Our ASYE programme provides regular supervision as well as space for study time, allowing newly qualified social workers to get the very best start in their careers. For those returning to social work after an extended break, we offer a support package that includes training and reflective sessions which will provide a fast track way back to practice.

We are committed to your development and career, with bespoke management and Leadership training for all aspirant and existing managers. In partnership with the Institute of Public Care at Oxford Brookes university, Wokingham offers staff the opportunities for, coaching, mentoring and development of personal professional skills.

I've worked for Wokingham for just over a year as a Practice Consultant; I was quickly made to feel a valued member of the team and I have built some good working relationships with my colleagues and those senior to me. The management team are approachable and I have always felt comfortable to ‘give things a go’ without the worry of being wrong. The training and development opportunities available are vast and varied and great emphasis has been placed on my wish to progress.
I have worked with Wokingham Borough Council several years and I have valued the support I have received along with the training opportunities and sponsorship to do my BA Social Work degree and Registered Managers award as well as various other courses such as Consolidation for Specialist Practice and PEPS 1 and 2. I would very much recommend Wokingham as a place to work providing excellent training and work opportunities as well as support for progression and development of skills.
I commenced employment with Wokingham Borough Council in January 2015 as a newly qualified social worker in the Disabled Children’s Team. I have been impressed with the support in particular around court work when I have had specialist support around presenting at court both through training and from a practice consultant.
There is a nice team environment; I like having my own desk and colleagues have a great relationship. I feel very supported by them, practice consultants and managers. Training opportunities are impressive, there is lots of variety and they are good quality. A learning culture is encouraged.
I like working in Wokingham because it is a small authority and therefore the various teams work closely together and there is a sense of joint responsibility. The introductions of Signs of Safety and Group Supervision has further contributed to this.
